The Chapel of Notre Dame de Beauvoir was probably built by the monks of the Saint Victor Abbey of Marseilles which included it in it’s possessions as early as 1079. The chapel was attached to the Curacy of Beaumont de Pertuis in the16th century and served as a parish for several months after the collapse of the Church of St Jean. The present building is the result of a series of alterations to the Roman chapel.

The magnificent 17th century bell tower of the Bastide des Jourdans was built at the top of the Serret. It has four transepts containing three bells ( the last one was installed in 1834 ).
It’s strategic position ensured that the ringing of the bells could be heard by the whole village as well as by the surrounding countryside. The base of the tower is 25sq meters wide, it is 18 meters high and it’s campanile creates a majestic effect. Contact : Mairie de La Bastide

Take a walk along the `banc de la Marquise’ in Mirabeau. This walk owes it’s name to the legend which tells how, having stirred up trouble between Emilie de Marignane and her suitor Monsieur de la

Valette, by way of a scandal, Gabriel Honoré Riquetti de Mirabeau married her in Aix on 23rd of June 1772. The reason for his marriage was self-interest rather than love. The Marquis of Marignane who had organised an important dowry for his daughter was careful not to pass the assets on until his death. Upset by his attitude, Gabriel Honoré expressed his resentment towards his wife, who, when she was on her husband’s lands, would often go and hide her sorrow sitting on a stone bench ( no longer there today) which overlooked the ferry crossing the Durance. She regretted her life in Aix at her grandmother’s, Marguerite de Marignane and the Count de la Valette’s courtship.

The plateau of Saintt Julien is a perfect natural fortress and still bears the remains of an oppidum of huge proportions. It was inhabited during the Iron Age and during the Gallo-Roman Era. The antique habitation disappeared round the 5th century. A chapel dedicated to Saint Julien was built in the 17th century including a hermitage next to the chapel. Situated at les than 1,5 km from the village and at an altitude of 449 meters, there is a wonderful panoramic view to be had .
Be careful though ! the access to the site is not safe and we recommend that you remain vigilant. Both the commune of La Bastidonne as well as the Intercommunal Tourist Office decline all responsibility
